Statement of Artistic Philosophy

My struggles with different life experiences have given me means of exploration and expression through photography and drawing.  Using the tools that I am given helps me to sort through and organize thoughts and emotions that cannot be conveyed through any other means.

The photographs utilize color, space, and movement to organize and express my everyday experiences, both internally and externally.  Some of these everyday occurrences are major life changing experiences that manipulate my inner emotions.  These emotions range from anxiety and resentment to self-possession and isolation.  Some images are more obscure then others, representing how some emotions and experiences are less clear and/ or less resolved.

The drawings use space and light to express the feelings of or toward the subject being represented.  I draw people I am close to.  Drawing them allows me to interact and connect with these individuals on a higher level compared to simply speaking with them.  Not only is there a mental connection, but an emotional one as well.  I am able to see the individual for who they truly are.  My drawings show this with the calm, still poses and the tranquil colors.

I make art to get at the reality that cannot fully be identified or conceived in a true form.
